Recently I’ve been captivated by the astonishing beauty in nature’s water reflections. I am completely amazed by the quantity of light and colour that saturate the waters both fresh and sea. My desire is to hold onto something of these beautiful occurrences which so easily go unnoticed. I feel my eyes being drawn to the bouncing light and flickering colours which seem to dance and in a moment change and evolve. These unique qualities all come together to create something that dazzles and intrigues every one of my senses. My manner of painting for this work is very fluid and the materials I am using are very watery and themselves transparent and reflective. I can’t sleep some nights as I’m thinking of the waters texture and contents and how I can chase these incredible natural wonders. So I have eagerly embarked on a journey of discovery to somehow capture the thing that haunts every moment of my consciousness.
I have recently moved to a small village in Exmoor which has outstanding views across Southwest Somerset. I am now teaching Fine Art at the local college and am becoming more involved with the local community. I have visited several studios of various Artists who work in this area, styles ranging from expressive abstraction to photorealism. An energetic buzz thrives among people down here it seems. I get the sense that the deep forest oozes curiosity and mystery at every edge. It's compelling, and since moving here it has been something that I aspire to capture. Myself and fellow Artist Keith Crocker are forming a project that will aim to contain our passion for this hardened landscape. Our first significant inspiration came when we visited the studio of Andrew and Toni Davey, who displayed an outstanding show of work that often focused on the contemplation of nature and it's purity. Keith and I will come from different angles but, will be working on similar themes. I am keen to adapt my style in such a way that I feel truly reflects my feelings towards this environment. Our work will be exhibited initially in the local area around Minehead with a strong possibility of a show within Duster Castle, which is situated in Exmoor woodland
